Netherlands’ best Robin receives angry email from mother of son that raged from losing during Smash Ultimate session

Wendel “Mad Ice King” Rebel is widely considered to be the best Robin user for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in the Netherlands. Despite maining a character that’s generally seen as a mid tier by most players, Mad Ice King really seems to believe in Robin. Whether its offline at tournaments or online at Battle Arenas, this is a player that’s known for consistently destroying opponents until they’re forced to give up (usually by the host kicking Mad Ice King in Battle Arenas).

However, it seems that some players just don’t know when to quit. Earlier this week, Mad Ice King received an angry email about a certain player’s experience against him during an online session. What’s particularly interesting about this email is that it didn’t come from the opponent, but rather the mother of the opponent.

Although the email was originally written in Dutch (the official language of the Netherlands), Mad Ice King was nice enough to provide a rough translation of what was written to him. The email started off normal enough as it was addressed to “sir Mad Ice King.”

“My oldest son was playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on his Switch around 11 P.M. and wanted to sleep at a decent time as he had to work early the following morning.”

“When I went to bed he was still in his room screaming ‘Cancer Mario! Cancer Robin! I hope you all die soon!'”

This suggests that the player spoken about in the email was having a particularly difficult time at getting the best of Mad Ice King. The next line confirmed that the player was unable to take a single game.

“I told him to calm down and that it was time for bed. He answered he would when he won at least once. That didn’t happen.”

“That’s why I wrote this angry mail to you as I wasn’t able to sleep because of it and the controllers that were thrown across his room.”

Unfortunately for the mother’s son, it seems that drastic actions had to be taken to forcibly end this session.

“He was very aggressive and I had to pull out the internet so he would calm down.”

However, it sounds like the son didn’t take this particularly well. Although this was all in writing, you get the sense of a passive aggressive tone from the mother based on what’s said at the very end.

“After a lot of crying he went to bed. I hope this won’t reoccur again.”

It really feels like the blame is being placed on Mad Ice King for this situation occurring. While this isn’t said outright, the last line gives the impression that Mad Ice King maybe should’ve just let his opponent win. Or maybe Mad Ice King should’ve been the one to end the session between the two players.

According to Mad Ice King, he responded to the email by saying that this behavior isn’t his responsibility, and then suggested that the mother should look elsewhere for a solution to the son’s anger problems.

What’s funny about all this is that Mad Ice King himself doesn’t even know who the player is in this situation. As mentioned before, Mad Ice King has a history of invading Battle Arenas where he then beats everyone continuously until the host gets tired of it before kicking him from the lobby.

Needless to say, this has inspired the creation of a certain meme (as seen above). Those familiar with the Batman Beyond series should recognize this scene that occurred between Terry (as Batman) and Blight.

At one point, the mother of this player must’ve seen who the son was playing against and took note of Mad Ice King’s username. From there, she probably looked him up and found his contact info on his Twitter or YouTube profile.

As a content creator, Mad Ice King also spends a lot of time creating guides on YouTube focused on just about every facet of Robin’s toolkit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. These guides are actually incredibly detailed and are worth checking out. Who knows? By learning Robin via these guides, it could be possible to get a response like this one from somebody.
